Gresham International: The Compliance and Legal Services for the Crypto-landscape
Cal Evans’ career is a testimony to the fact that the blend of talent, knowledge, skill, and practice makes an entrepreneur a force to be reckoned with. As a young man, Evans undertook advanced IT at a junior college and received the top AVCE award. He passed law school in England, specializing in business and corporate law. In 2015, Evans even undertook his certificate in financial markets at Yale. This was the same year he founded Gresham International, a Cryptocurrency & Security Token Compliance, and Legal Services company. “Gresham began life as a fintech compliance firm. We supported startups with whatever they needed. After about six months, I obtained a Crypto client. I assisted them with their raise and, through my knowledge of the crypto market, helped them secure a few million dollars. As such, I decided to only work within it. This was one of the best decisions I ever made,” says Evans, Managing Associate, Gresham International.
Today, Gresham International is considered to be the largest crypto-only legal service firm. Their clients include companies that work in the Crypto/ST space and companies looking to raise funds through Crypto/ST’s. Gresham International has worked with governments, including the UK Crypto Taskforce, Dubai, Malaysia, and submitted MOU’s to Bolivia and Paraguay. Furthermore, they have helped clients raise over $800 million. “We are cryptocurrency lawyers, not lawyers that work in cryptocurrency. We prove that day in and day out by the things we have done including, developing the first working Hybrid Token Offering model, owning patents around transactional security tokens backed by shares, writing the world’s first Security Token laws in the region of Labuan, and successfully developing a raise model to satisfy the SEC,” prides Evans.
Typically, the company caters to three types of clients. Starting with Cryptocurrency and Token firms—companies working in the space such as crypto media, crypto marketing, mining, development, software, exchanges, consulting, or financial firms.

“Think of clients in three phases. Entering. In. Expanding. We can help with all three of those stages,” says Evans.
To elaborate, Evans cites an instance wherein one of the company’ clients was undertaking a cryptocurrency raise. They had raised in excess of $15million when the SEC began sending them questions. After many trials and errors with other lawyers, the client teamed up with Gresham International to solve this problem. Gresham restructured, re-deployed, and worked with the SEC to improve the situation. The client went on to raise in excess of $30million, with no further questions. “As a company, we maintain some strong fundamentals. We support mostly startups and smaller firms. We only do fixed fee billing as opposed to billing our customers by the hour. There are no nasty surprises, and any cost savings are passed directly onto clients. Our professional ethics have helped us gained enough trust for governments to contact us when they want to draft new laws,” prides Evans.
Gresham International’s aim is ambitious yet straightforward—to help cryptocurrency become mainstream. They strive to help companies within this space and those trying to enter or understand it. “Most companies in the Crypto space are startups.
